BobbyBrowser for parents

BobbyBrowser gives students a dedicated place to read, write, research, and complete assignments. Teachers set up the learning environment, including which websites and tools are available and whether students can use Bobby’s AI tutor.

The goal is to help students stay engaged and think for themselves, while giving teachers a better understanding of where they need help.

No. On Mac and Windows, BobbyBrowser is a separate browser app that students open for schoolwork. Installing it does not enroll a personal computer in school device management or give teachers remote access to the desktop.

Bobby’s AI features work with the questions and schoolwork students provide inside the service. They do not watch what a student does in other applications.

BobbyBrowser is a separate browser for assignment work. Teachers choose which websites and tools students can use inside Bobby. Those rules do not carry over to a student’s regular Chrome, Edge, or other browser.

Bobby does not filter your home network or control browsing in other browsers. A school may separately use filtering or device-management tools; those have their own settings and policies.

Teachers can review activity within BobbyBrowser during an assigned session, including pages visited, time spent, interactions, written work, submissions, and conversations with Bobby’s AI tools.

Bobby can also report that its window lost focus and for how long. For instance, during an exam, a teacher can see that a student left Bobby. We cannot see where they went or what they did in another app.

Some assignments use fullscreen and attention rules to help students stay on task. Leaving the assignment window can be recorded and may pause access until the teacher allows the student to continue.

These are controls for the Bobby assignment experience. They do not give the teacher remote control of other applications or access to personal content.

Bobby does not search through personal documents or report activity in other applications or browsers. Files your child deliberately uploads and work they create in Bobby are processed to provide the classroom features they use.

Classroom activity reporting relates to teacher-assigned sessions in Bobby. Simply having the app installed does not give a teacher a view of the rest of the computer.

We collect account and school information, activity during assigned sessions, and content students provide to writing and AI features. We also collect technical information, such as app version, operating system, network address, and error logs, to operate and protect the service.

Our Privacy Policy lists the data elements, why each is collected, who receives it, and how long it is kept.

No. We do not sell student personal information, serve advertising to students, or use student personal information to train AI models.

When students use AI features, the content they submit is processed to produce responses and feedback. That processing is separate from using their data to train a model.

The student’s teacher and school can access the classroom information available to them. We also use service providers for functions such as hosting, AI responses, sign-in, and diagnostics, under data processing agreements.

The Privacy Policy names these providers and explains sharing and retention. Our Security & Trust page explains safeguards, including encryption and access controls.

Yes. Contact your child’s school or email [email protected] to request access, correction, export, or deletion. Requests are verified and handled subject to the retention requirements in our Privacy Policy.

Removing the app from a computer and deleting school records are separate steps. Uninstalling Bobby does not automatically delete an account or previously submitted work.

Your school decides how BobbyBrowser is used in its classes and communicates its installation, notice, and consent requirements. Families should receive a clear explanation of the purpose and what information is involved.

If you have questions about installing it on a personally owned computer, contact your school before installation. Ask about the school’s policy and whether a school-provided device or another arrangement is available. We can help explain the product to you and your school.

On a personal Mac or Windows computer, quit BobbyBrowser and uninstall it using the normal app-removal process:

• Windows: open Settings → Apps → Installed apps, find BobbyBrowser, and choose Uninstall.
• Mac: open Finder → Applications and move BobbyBrowser to the Trash.
• School-managed installations or the Chromebook extension: ask school IT to remove the deployment or extension policy if removal is managed by the school.

Like other browsers, local app data or cached files may remain after app removal. Support can help with cleanup. Any security exceptions or device-management settings added separately by school IT should also be reviewed by IT; removing Bobby does not automatically undo those changes.

Some security software uses a “reputation score” that considers how widely an app has been downloaded and how long it has been around. BobbyBrowser is newer and less widely downloaded than browsers like Chrome, so an installer may show a reputation warning. A warning that a file is “not commonly downloaded” does not by itself mean a virus was found.

Depending on the security product and the warning, installation may need an exception for BobbyBrowser. School IT or our support team can help verify the official installer, allow the download, or restore it if the antivirus placed it in quarantine. In some cases, an exception for that specific file is needed to keep it from being blocked again.

An exception changes how that file is checked. The rest of the antivirus can remain active. If settings were changed during installation, we can work with your family and school IT to explain what changed and check that the other protections are enabled.
